Uttrakhand India – The Land of God

Uttrakhand, India the Land of God

Uttrakhand formerly known as Uttrakhand is a north Indian state with the Himalayas crossing the state mainly known for pilgrimage by the Hindus. It is also called the Devbhumi ( In Hindi Meaning The Land of God ) owing to the numerous ancient Hindu shrines, temples, and pilgrimage sites.

STATE INTRODUCTION – UTTARAKHAND

The state borders Tibet on the north and Nepal to the east with Uttar Pradesh to the south and Himachal Pradesh to its west.

Uttrakhand is mainly divided into two regions namely Kumaon and Garhwal. Dehradun is the capital of the state.

Uttrakhand is known for Rishikesh, famous for its yoga study and fresh white river rafting and camping across the world. It is also popular for the Ganga River Aarti which is a spiritual gathering on the Hindu Scared river Ganges.

Hindus throng every year to the pilgrimage Badrinath (dedicated to Lord Vishnu) and Kedarnath (dedicated to Lord Shiva) to offer their prayers and seek blessings.

If you are lucky to be in India do check out the Kumbh Mela hosted at Haridwar that takes place every 12 years celebrated by millions of pilgrims around the world.

No this is not it on the temples, we are just getting started. Even locals visit here due to such popular and known temples with various legends attached to it, this place is much respected. But just because these are religious destinations do not mean tourist only visit for the religious purpose. One needs to visit this place to believe the beauty these destinations have. As I have shared before I love traveling to spiritual destinations this is one of my frequently visited states.

Apart from Hindu pilgrimage, Rishikesh is known for Gurudwara Hemkund for Sikhs, PiranKaliyar Sharif near Roorkee a pilgrimage for Muslims, Uttrakhand also boasts of Mindrolling Monastery and its Buddha Stupa in Clement Town Dehradun.

Of course, God will choose a beautiful place to reside! There are various forests and national parks to explore in this state as well.

The world famous Bengal Tigers, elephants and other native wildlife are found in Jim Corbett National Park’s forest and a delight for tourists who love Jungle Safaris.

Uttrakhand is dotted with some of the most well-known hill-stations in India like Mussoorie, Nainital, Almora, Bhimtal, Danaulti, Landsdowne, Kasauni and Ranikhet to name a few. World famous skiing resorts lie in the areas of Auli and Munsiariare. The hike up the serene green meadows of Dayara and Bugyal is a treat for the city dwellers.

Another UNESCO world heritage site, just learnt a lot about India, I will surely won’t forget that word “Devbhumi” Uttrakhand is indeed the land of Gods, there are a lot of lakes, and temples, and interesting places to visit. The hill with the glance of the lake makes me remember of Lugano. it’s so beautiful!

Nice that you are catching some important Hindi words like Dev=God Bhumi=Land !! Lugano, in Switzerland, is such a nice comparison to Nainital! the place reminded me of Switzerland too except for that the famous ones are now crowded so I visit the offbeat lakes which are serene and so beautiful 🙂
