Amazing Tamil Nadu

South India has some amazing tourist destinations and amazing architecture. I remember visiting Chennai many times to experience the amazing food and relaxed times at the beaches. I enjoyed the road trip to Pondicherry and spiritual atmosphere at the Auroville Ashram.

STATE INTRODUCTION – TAMIL NADU

Tamil Nadu is an Indian state touching the southernmost tip with Chennai as its capital. Its border touches Puducherry, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. On its north lie the Eastern Ghats, on the west lie Anamalia and Nilgiri Hills.

Tamil Nadu is known to have the second largest state economy in India.

It is rich in natural resources and culturally rich people who have developed greatly in music, classical music, literature and classical arts. Tamil Nadu cuisines and silk are world famous with historical facts like the ancient trade from the Chennai Port attached to them.

Grand Hindu temples magnificent in their Dravidian architecture are found here. The UNESCO World Heritage Sites found here are monuments in Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram), Airavateswara temple in Darasuram and the Shore Temple to name a few.

Chennai -In Chennai tourism thrives due to its beaches and colonial Fort St. George (1644).First thing I do in Chennai is the hunt for good food. This place is the origin of world famous South Indian Cuisines Idli Dosa Sambar. Also Chettinad Chicken is famous from here .they have pulses preparation like a soup called as Sambar served with Idli and Dosa. (Drooling).Chennai is famous for a busy lifestyle and breezy beaches like Marina Beach.One cannot miss visiting temples if visit Chennai famous ones being Parthasarathy Temple which is one of the oldest temples in Chennai.A very famous Shiva Temple Karaneeswarar is of much respect as well. Many more temples like Kapaleeswarar can be visited.

Madurai – I cannot forget my visit to Madurai because of the amazing temples I saw there. You have to see it to believe it how awesome is the architecture there. This architecture of these Hindu Pilgrimage temples is called as the Dravidian style.

Tiruchirapalli is an ancient city which further connects to various historical sites like Thanjavur and Pudukkottai.

Coimbatore – though this is an industrial town there are many beautiful temples to visit here too including around thousand-year-old Perur Pateeshwarar temple!

Pondicherry –You could also drive down to Pondicherry (Puducherry) a beautiful quaint French Colonial settlement has preserved the French legacy.

As you cycle around Pondicherry enjoys the mustard colored colonial villas and chic boutiques with lush green trees lined on the street sides. It also boasts of a seaside promenade that runs along the Bay of Bengal which passes several statues including a Gandhi Memorial 4 m in height.  I went on a road trip here and enjoyed taking pictures at such green fields and visiting these roads less traveled.

Kanyakumari Further south is the town of Kanyakumari a huge tourist attraction due to it being the southernmost tip of India and its sunrise view and rituals. Chennai is surrounded by water with the Bay of Bengal lies to its east with Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar on the south-east with the Indian Ocean touching the South most tip. Who would not want to visit the Southern Most Tip of India, an experience I cannot forget. The Rameshwaram temple is a must visit and the feeling to step into the water of the last point of India is unique. Water is rough though!

There are many more cities temples and destinations one can explore. Tamil Nadu boasts of eight UNESCO Heritage Sites with a Tourism Industry largest in India. It is the highest visited state in India by both foreign and domestic tourists.
