Phenomenal Punjab A must visit Indian State

Phenomenal Punjab

It is important to visit Punjab when you visit India to experience its phenomenal destinations and cuisines. We all have heard about Punjabi Food or Music or Dance or Style! My visit to Punjab was an unforgettable one. I reached Amritsar as it is an amazing place to worship and then I visited other locations. I loved the culture food and overall energy of this place.

Punjab is a north Indian state bordering Pakistan on the west Himachal Pradesh to the east, Haryana to the South and Jammu and Kashmir to the north. Punjab is where India’s Sikh community was formed.

The name Punjab comes from the fact that it is the “Land of Five Waters” as it refers to the five rivers Beas, Sutlej, Chenab, Ravi, and Jhelum.

The most famous city of Punjab is Amritsar known world over for its holiest Gurudwara (Sikh Place of Worship) called the Golden Temple. It is surrounded by a Pool of Nectar (called Amrit in the Hindi language) a major pilgrimage for both Sikhs and other devotees.

Harminder Sahib has been voted by Lonely Planet Blue list 2008 as one of the world’s top spiritual sites.

If you are in Amritsar don’t forget to check out the Durgiana Temple known for it’s engraved silver doors.

It is primarily an agricultural state due to its fertile soils and huge water reserves apart from manufacturing of agricultural and electrical goods. It also manufactures scientific instruments, textiles, sewing machines, sports goods, bicycles, garments, pine oil, and sugar to name a few.

It is in Punjab where you will find the hugest number of steel rolling mill plants in India situated in Fatehgarh Sahib District.

Tourism in Punjab state revolves around battle sites, outstanding Sikh architecture, historical places and green agricultural fields.Don’t miss to visit the nearby villages and experience the farms and amazing people there.

Another landmark religious temple Devi Talab Mandir is located in Jalandhar devoted to Goddess Durga (200 years old). Near Ludhiana city is located a popular tourist destination called Kila Raipur which is worth visiting during the Sports festival.

The city of Pathankot is famous for Ranjir Sagar lake, Mukstar Temple, and Shahpur Kandi Fort. In Bhatinda, there are found various sites of ancient Indus Valley Civilization, the city fort. Don’t forget to miss the architectural monuments of Kapurthala, Patiala, and Chandigarh the most organized and modern capital designed by Le Corbusier in Punjab state.

Punjabi cuisine is world famous. The butter chicken and fish from Amritsar is a must to try. But for vegetarian food lovers like me there is Kesar Da Dhaba (restaurant) in Amritsar which offered this platter with bread and pulses so yum that I am drooling while writing .Its Daal and Kulcha for you !  special daal, cooked overnight on a slow flame, & laccha parantha. They use pure desi ghee in all of their preparations and a meal here will definitely have a hypnotic effect on you!!!Till you visit Punjab you can search for nearest Punjabi restaurant and try the local version in your city . I am sure you will enjoy the authentic delicious food .

It is advisable to learn a few Punjabi words and meet the locals who are very welcoming. They welcome you with a huge hug called as “Jappi” in Punjabi language.

So visit this place and share your experiences.

It’s so funny cause I was about to comment and I saw Helene’s I was just about to say regarding butter chicken as well, Anyways back to the Punjab place, I think people are very charming to give you a hug cause in Asia we rarely hug or kiss when welcoming people in the contrast of European culture they exchanges kisses on cheeks like 3 to 4 times depends on the region or country, this is a charming and adorable place to visit.

I like that people in Europe are so welcoming and greet with a kiss on the cheek. Hugging is a warm way to welcome too. Punjab has a charming environment indeed.Glad you liked this post . 🙂

Punjab is a phenomenal state, no doubt!! The food is out of the world (and full of butter and ghee.. slurp) as is their culture. So far, I’ve only been to Chandigarh, but plan to cover more eventually. Cheers!!
